Wild Ones Will Shine

HUNTER Valley Street Machines club members are not the types for hiding their lights (or in this case cars) under a bushell.
Which means the men and women with the wild cars will be out in force over the weekend of August 16 and 17 for the club's 11th annual Charity Show and Shine.
The show, to be held in the Valley Motor Auctions building in Park Avenue, Kotara, will feature some of the best in the business, including Ben Gatt's ultra-radical 1939 Lincoln Zephyr.
Along with the usual classes for cars and bikes, the Hunter Valley Street Machines show also features a competition for the loudest cars, or, to be more correct, the loudest sound systems.
Entry fee per show vehicle is $10 (outside) or $15 (inside) and admission cost is $5 for adults and free for children under 14, with proceeds to SIDS research and Ronald McDonald House.
To find out more, call John (0438 505 797) or Grant (0409 997 375).
UTE and light truck owners will also be getting the chance to show off their toys at the first (and hopefully annual) Cessnock Wine Country Camp-draft and Ute Round-up at Cessnock Showgrounds on September 6.
Organisers are catering for all types of utes in the roundup, with prizes for a wide range of classes from best-presented to most feral. There is even a special panel van section.
To find out more, call Roslyn Lindsay on 0412 967 863.
NEWCASTLE'Sbikers are getting into the charity mood, organising a cosy little affair called the Leather and Lace Ball to be held at Mayfield Ex-Services Club.
It won't be happening until November 15 but the biker types are getting the publicity machine going early because only 350 tickets (at $60 each) will be sold.
Organisers Bikers for Kids have booked a variety of entertainment, with the Animato Flute Trio serenading during dinner before handing over to Gold Cadillac and The Cruisers for the after-dinner dancing, with Chrystal Richards singing during band breaks.
The group is after sponsors and people who can donate raffle items. Potential sponsors or partygoers needing to book seats should ring Noel on 4953 1427 (after 6pm) and keep in mind that bookings have to be made by the end of August.
