Parking Crisis

Illawarra Mercury

Wednesday August 8, 2007

MOTORISTS could be car sharing and transferring to bikes within five years to ease chronic congestion west of the city centre.

These are just two recommendations in a Wollongong City Council report which identifies parking west of the hospital as grossly inadequate for both pedestrians and motorists.

Confusing road markings, poor street lighting, crumbling footpaths, trip hazards, inadequate bus shelters and poor provision of cycleways are some of the points raised in the study.

The sick and elderly are forced to deal with conditions which are at best inadequate and at worst potentially dangerous.

Now, Wollongong City Council is hoping to fix the problem and it wants your feedback.
